What Are the Gears Used in a Planetary Gearbox?

Update:25-03-2025
Summary:...

1. Sun Gear
Located at the center of the assembly, the sun gear is driven by the input shaft and transmits rotational force to the planetary gears .
Typically made of hardened alloy steel for wear resistance and durability, it ensures efficient power transfer even under high torque .

2. Planet Gears
Multiple planet gears (usually 3-6) are evenly spaced around the sun gear and mesh with both the sun gear and the ring gear .
These gears distribute the load across multiple contact points, reducing stress on individual teeth and enabling the gearbox to handle radial and axial loads (up to 332,000 Nm in some models) .
Precision-ground teeth and advanced heat treatment ensure smooth operation and minimal backlash .

3. Ring Gear (Annulus)
The outermost gear with internal teeth, the ring gear acts as a stationary or rotating housing. Its fixed position allows the planet gears to orbit the sun gear, creating torque multiplication .
Constructed from hardened alloy steel, it provides structural integrity and noise reduction .

4. Carrier
The carrier holds the planet gears in place and connects to the output shaft. Its design ensures stability and alignment, critical for maintaining gear meshing accuracy under dynamic loads .
Modular carriers allow for easy customization of gear ratios and stages (e.g., single-stage for compactness or multi-stage for higher ratios) .

Key Advantages of Our Planetary Gearboxes:
High Torque Density: Load distribution across multiple planet gears enables exceptional torque output in a compact footprint .
Low Noise & Vibration: Optimized gear profiles and precision bearings (e.g., full-complement cylindrical rollers or tapered bearings) ensure quiet operation .
Durability: Advanced materials (e.g., case-hardened alloy steel) and surface treatments extend service life, even in harsh environments .
Modular Design: Standardized components reduce production costs and enable rapid customization for diverse applications, from robotics to heavy machinery .
